County officials and staff from across Texas will gather Aug. 27-29 in Austin for the Texas Association of Counties’ 2025 Legislative Conference. Nearly 1,000 participants are expected — more than 800 in person and some 170 virtually. The conference will highlight key takeaways and updates from the 89th Texas Legislature and explore how new laws affect county operations and local taxpayers.

Schedule

The conference opens with a keynote address by Kent R. Hance, former U.S. representative, former Texas Tech chancellor and host of “The Best Storyteller in Texas” podcast. His signature blend of humor and insight will set the stage for a packed agenda.

Panel discussions will cover land use, indigent defense, election security, transparency laws, emergency management and more. The conference concludes Aug. 29 with a session on county leadership along the Texas-Mexico border.
