"We received a PIA request for a variety of elections information including a request for personal information about former election volunteers. Is this information confidential?"

Is the personal information of election officials confidential and excepted from public access?

Under Government Code §552.1175(a)(20), certain personal identifying information of a current or former election official, employee, volunteer, or designee of an election official who performs duties relating to elections is confidential. Information that relates to the home address, telephone number, emergency contact information, date of birth, Social Security number, or information that reveals the individual has family members is confidential and may not be disclosed to the public if the individual (1) chooses to restrict public access, and (2) notifies the governmental body of the individual’s choice.
