“The unincorporated area of our county is all over the place with address number signage. It’s difficult for our emergency response team to find their way. Can the county do anything to standardize it?” |

Can a county adopt standards for address number signs in unincorporated areas?
A commissioners court may adopt, by order, standards and specifications for the design and installation of address number signs in unincorporated areas of the county, including sign size, materials, durability, visibility, reflectivity and any other factors the court considers necessary or appropriate.
Before adopting the standards, the commissioners court must hold a public hearing and give public notice at least two weeks before the hearing date. If the order conflicts with a municipal ordinance, the municipal ordinance prevails in the territory in which it is effective. Transportation Code §251.013.
