"A citizen stopped me in the grocery store yesterday, complaining that he never recieved his tax notice from the county and shouldn't be expected to pay. Is that true?"

What does the county do if a citizen claims they did not receive notice of their taxes? Can the county waive late fees?

Failure to receive a tax bill does not affect the validity of the tax, penalty, or interest, the due date, the existence of a tax lien or any procedure instituted to collect a tax. Tax Code §31.01(g). Waivers of penalties and interest may be permissible, pursuant to Tax Code §33.011.
