PDF Accessibility Remediation
Did you know? Every time you post a PDF to your website, it needs to be ADA accessible.
People with vision impairments often use screen readers to understand the text on a website, but PDFs aren’t immediately compatible with screen reader technology. That’s why TAC CIRA partnered with Equidox, a software that makes PDFs accessible.
Texas counties can save money by using the Equidox platform through TAC CIRA. The three service options include:
- Self Service – This option grants unlimited access to the Equidox platform, so county employees can make PDFs accessible and post them online.
- CIRA Assist – A TAC CIRA member will use the Equidox platform to make the PDF accessible. CIRA staff will send the PDF back to the county so they can post it to their website.
- CIRA Complete – TAC CIRA will handle everything, from making PDFs accessible to posting them on the county’s website. TAC CIRA will also handle other posting requests, such as updating calendars, images and text. Note: You must have a TAC CIRA website in order to use this service.

The DOJ’s ADA compliance deadline is approaching, so counties should start making their PDFs accessible now. The deadlines are:
- Counties with populations at or over 50,000: April 26, 2027
- Counties with populations below 50,000: April 26, 2028
