A Wetter, Colder Winter? Preparing Your County for Winter 2026-2027

As winter approaches, county governments must prepare their facilities, vehicles, equipment and employees for cold weather and severe conditions. With a strong El Niño potentially influencing the 2026–27 winter season, Texas is likely to experience a colder and wetter winter. Counties should evaluate their winter preparedness plans and consider how changing conditions could affect operations, infrastructure and public services.

This presentation will explore practical strategies to protect county property, maintain essential operations and safeguard employees during winter weather events. Topics will include facility winterization, utility and infrastructure protection, vehicle and equipment readiness, employee safety, and emergency response coordination. Participants will gain actionable insights to help their counties reduce weather-related damage, minimize operational disruptions and strengthen overall resilience against winter weather challenges.
