AUSTIN – The Texas Association of Counties (TAC) congratulates Wise County Judge J.D. Clark on being sworn in as the 2025-26 president of the National Association of Counties (NACo). The swearing-in ceremony took place July 14 during NACo’s Annual Conference and Exposition in Philadelphia.
A lifelong resident of Wise County and county judge since 2014, Clark now leads an organization representing more than 3,000 counties, parishes and boroughs across the United States. As president, he will chair board meetings, appoint committee members and serve as NACo’s chief spokesperson and public representative.
“Judge Clark is a passionate, principled leader whose dedication to counties and their communities shines through in every role he takes on,” said TAC Executive Director Susan M. Redford. “He understands both the weight and opportunity of local leadership. We are thrilled to see a Texas county official take on this national role. He makes Texas proud.”
Each NACo president launches a signature initiative during their term. Clark’s presidential spotlight, “County Storytellers,” encourages county officials to share compelling stories that illustrate the value and importance of local governance.
“As county leaders, we are all storytellers,” Clark told conference attendees. “Stories help us cut through the noise, connect with our communities and make an impact.”
Joining Clark on NACo’s executive committee are First Vice President George Dunlap of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina; Second Vice President Alisha Bell of Wayne County, Michigan; Immediate Past President James Gore of Sonoma County, California; and four regional representatives.
