County Relations Officer Alan Bristol retires
TAC Honors County Relations Officer Alan Bristol on His Retirement
The Texas Association of Counties is celebrating one of its own. County Relations Officer Alan Bristol is retiring this month. He has been the trusted first point of contact for many county officials around Texas, especially those in the 68 counties in Far West, Permian Basin, Big Country, and Central Texas regions. TAC applauds his long career in public service and his deep commitment to Texas counties.
“Alan has been a mentor, trusted confidant and resource to hundreds of county officials across Texas,” Executive Director Susan M. Redford said. “His service to counties leaves a lasting mark.”
Bristol joined TAC’s County Relations team in 2016, bringing with him decades of experience in county government and public law. His service began in 1987 as an assistant — and later first assistant — criminal district attorney in Navarro County. In 1997, he was elected City Attorney for Corsicana, and in 1999 was appointed Navarro County Judge, a role he held through 2006. He also maintained a private law practice for many years, handled civil and criminal matters of every type, and worked briefly in TAC’s Education Department before spending seven years with the Linebarger law firm supporting local governments.
During his time at TAC, Bristol became known for his extensive knowledge, his energetic style and, most of all, his genuine commitment to helping county officials. Within three years of joining the County Relations Officers team, Bristol had visited all 254 counties. He traveled hundreds of thousands of miles across Texas and built countless relationships, some of which became lifelong friends.
“TAC has always found a way to serve our members, and that will continue,” he said. “Helping county officials get answers — that’s always been my favorite part of the job.”
As TAC prepares for this transition, Stephanie Moreno, Associate Executive Director of TAC, will provide support to the counties in the West Texas, Big Country and Central Texas area until a permanent replacement is selected. Counties can be confident they will continue receiving the responsive support they expect and deserve. Learn more about TAC’s County Relations Officers.
TAC extends our deepest thanks to Alan for his exceptional service, and our warmest wishes for the road ahead.
