Texas County Storytellers: Sharing the Stories Behind County Government
Every county has a story, and TAC is here to tell it.
Texas counties do remarkable work every day, but too often, their stories go untold. That’s why the Texas Association of Counties launched Texas County Storytellers, a campaign that spotlights the people, partnerships and progress happening in county government across the state. If you have a story to share, submit your idea and help us showcase the impactful work happening in Texas counties.
Mary Huber, managing editor of County magazine, spearheaded the first story in the campaign. “What our campaign really centers on is finding different ways to share the county perspective through words, images, sound and video so that people are able to absorb and respond to whatever medium they connect with,” Huber said. “If we are going to reach the people we want to reach and effect change, we have to be able to show our humanity, our fears, what drives us, the things that keep us up at night.”
What are we looking for?
Texas County Storytellers is focused on meaningful, county-driven stories that reflect the depth of county government. We’re especially interested in stories that show how counties work together, adapt to challenges and create positive outcomes for residents.
County-focused stories
Stories should center on county government efforts, programs or partnerships. While a single county story can be powerful, we welcome submissions that involve multiple counties working together to solve shared challenges.
Sharing good news
Texas County Storytellers is about highlighting successes, progress and lessons learned. Whether it’s a new initiative, a creative solution or a long-standing program that’s making a difference, we want to share stories that inspire and inform.
Multiple sources
Strong stories include multiple perspectives. We encourage submissions that include input from county officials, staff, partners or community members who can help tell a complete and compelling story.
